Japeth should be Burger King's top pick
Yeng Guiao has said it before and he’s saying it again.
“As a coach, that’s a no-brainer. Japeth should be the no. 1 pick in the draft considering the talent available out there," he pointed out.
Guiao made the statement in the light of recent pronouncements by Burger King team manager Lito Alvarez that he’s leaning more on getting gangling La Salle big man Rico Maierhofer with the top pick rather than the U.S. trained Aguilar from Western Kentucky University.
While he does respect the management’s decision, Guiao said he’s keeping his fingers crossed that eventually team officials would change their mind.
“In two years time, you’ll all see the potential of Japeth. Ngayon pa lang makikita mo na ‘yung galaw niya. Very raw pa nga lang and that’s understandable because he’s still an amateur."
“But once he’s exposed lalo na sa PBA, I guarantee you he’s going to dominate the league."
Apart from the no. 1 overall selection, Burger King also owns the nos. 3 and 8 picks.
Guiao hopes to use it in drafting a point guard, a position where the Whoppers had been vulnerable the past conference.
